Registration of Pathogens and Toxins
You must register any hazard group 2, 3 or 4 biological agents or hazards and any pathogens or pests which require a Scottish Government or DEFRA licence or licence by other relevant agency. You need to register and any pathogen or toxin on Schedule 5 list of the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act. You also need to register any species, strains or isolates not appearing in any of the above lists when there are reasonable grounds for suspecting it might be a previously unrecognised human, animal or plant pathogen or pest. The principal investigator must register their materials using the pathogen and toxins registration form. Principal Investigators must keep details of strains, origin, or other identification of the biological agents or hazards and of all individuals who have access to the materials. These records must be kept readily available for inspection and use in an emergency.
